The beauty of Suffolk

I don’t think there are many people left in this world that haven’t heard Ed Sheeran’s “Castle On The Hill” hit. The greatest fans probably already know, but to those who don’t, this song is actually about Suffolk. Specifically, a small place called Framlingham, where the singer grew up! However, apart from featuring in lyrics written by one of the most popular artists of our days, Suffolk has also got a lot to offer, both to the tourists and people that live here.

About Suffolk

Suffolk is an East Anglian county. It’s most important towns are Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft, Newmarket, and Felixstowe, where you can find one of the biggest container ports in Europe. There’s the North Sea on the East and it’s an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (areas all over the UK that have been designated for conservation).

With plenty of beaches and national parks, Suffolk offers multiple options for outdoor exercise and recreation. There are a number of bike paths, golf courses, horse riding schools, etc. You can go for a nice walk or a hike, have a barbeque on the beach or enjoy fish and chips at the seafront, which the county is quite famous for!

Peace, quiet and lovely neighbours

The pace of life is nice and slow, due to the area being filled with countryside. No one rushes anywhere, all essential things and places you can find on your doorstep, but if you still crave that big city life, you’re no further than a quick car or train journey away from London and other big cities.

Another fantastic thing about Suffolk is its community. People around here are friendly and helpful. Thanks to the towns being small and so close together, it can often feel like you’re a part of this big, caring family and always have someone around you that you can count on.

A place to call home

Due to the high quality of life that Suffolk has to offer and everything around here (from local products to houses) being relatively cheap, more and more people choose to start families and grow old here. Most recent Joint Strategic Needs Assessment has shown that over the next 15 years the number of people with dementia living in this area will double. Since there is no cure for dementia, the best thing that can be done is to work on prevention and there is no better place to do it than at home.

All the amazing things about Suffolk can contribute to reducing one’s chances to develop dementia. Being a part of the community, surrounded by family and friends, staying physically active, and a good diet, that can be easily maintained with the access to farming and home-produced products are key factors in staying fit and healthy for as long as possible.

As a local, professional photographer Phil Morley once said, “If you added mountains to Suffolk, then it really would have it all”, so if you’re looking for a place to move to, buy a holiday home in or simply wonder where would be best to live out your days in, the answer is Suffolk!
